September is great time to fish Lake Superior for lake trout. Smaller lake trout were out in 120-150 ft of water. The nicer lake trout were found in 25-40 ft of water. The key is finding the right water temperature. Lake trout were caught off the bottom and as high as 10 feet under the surface. Water temps were consistent from the bottom to the top and fish hit at different depths. A couple bonus king salmon were caught as well.

Lake of the Woods produced limits of fish but the wind make it quite the challenge. Three to four foot waves made us go with the waves and not where we necessarily wanted. With 20 mph winds in the forecast we opted to drive back early and fish Lake Pepin. Lake Pepin didn't produce the number of fish we see on Lake of the Woods but once again we found big fish.
