Conditions have been tough. Windy and waves. When the wind lays down Lake Erie produces like no other lake. Saturday was a quick limit with a nice 30" fish. We were able to get out 3 of 5 days last week. Lets hope for better conditions this coming week.

While I wouldn't say the bite is great, we were able to start putting fish in the boat fairly regularly pulling Dubuque rigs. Plain hook for the trailer with a fat head produced most fish. Fish that hit the jig/plastic tended to hit it hard, while the plain hook minnow bite was light. Bigger fish are being caught with blade baits and rip-n-raps in shallower water while eater size fish are coming from 16-20 feet of water. The bite is improving on a daily basis and will only get better.
With temps in the 40's for early March it was time to hit the river for some early season walleye fishing. Water temps were 37-40 degrees. Water clarity was as clear as I have ever seen on the river. There were a fair amount of boats on the water and a few fish were being caught pitching jigs, bladebaits, and Dubuque rigging. Fishing was not fast and most of the fish caught were between 12-18". The bite should continue to improve in the next week or two. Good luck to all the anglers participating in the Freeze Your Butt Off tournament today.
