I apologize for not getting regular reports out. The fall bite was generally 50 plus fish days. Fish were caught mostly jigging with three-way rigging also working well. I do prefer to jig anytime I can as many clients commented they enjoy feeling the bite. Limits were caught all but one day this fall. This bite lasted all of October and November until water temps were in the upper 30's. If you have never been out in fall you are missing an amazing bite!

Those bigger walleyes that typically show up in better number in July have started in late June. We are seeing upper 20's fish almost each trip out. A may fly hatch hasn't yet slowed the fishing to much and we are still finding good numbers and size out in 14-17 feet of water running shad style baits. The bite seems to move day to day with the bait. When you find it shorten your trolling pattern.
The limit streak has continue since for all of May and June. The bite remains excellent in near record low water. Water temps this week are around 80. The trolling bite is going strong with limits of 15-20" fish every day out and some bigger fish here and there. The weekends are very busy out there so please try to look around and think about what you are doing out there. I expect the bigger fish to really start going in July. Its been 20-30 fish a day pretty consistently. Look to 13-16 feet of water.
The hot bite on pool 4 has continued right through these 90-100 degree days. Fish are being caught every way we try for them right now. 30-40 fish days are common with limits of 16-20" walleyes being taken every trip. Summer patterns are starting to go with some bigger fish coming. I have June 18, July 14, and July 18 as my only day left until August.
The bite on Lake Pepin is what I would describe as good as you could ask for. Limits continue to be caught with 30-40 fish days still going. We are trolling number five WNC shaky shads and dragging BFishN tackle draggin jigs with a half crawler. Fish are mostly 16-19 inches and perfect for eating. The summer pattern should be picking up soon and we expect to see some bigger fish coming into later June.
The May bite has been nothing short of phenomenal. Limits are being caught in 2-4 foot of water. Lots of great eating size fish. Small crank baits are doing the trick pulled behind Gatorboards with very short leads. We have just two days in June, one day in July, and a few in August available.
Conditions have been tough. Windy and waves. When the wind lays down Lake Erie produces like no other lake. Saturday was a quick limit with a nice 30" fish. We were able to get out 3 of 5 days last week. Lets hope for better conditions this coming week.
While I wouldn't say the bite is great, we were able to start putting fish in the boat fairly regularly pulling Dubuque rigs. Plain hook for the trailer with a fat head produced most fish. Fish that hit the jig/plastic tended to hit it hard, while the plain hook minnow bite was light. Bigger fish are being caught with blade baits and rip-n-raps in shallower water while eater size fish are coming from 16-20 feet of water. The bite is improving on a daily basis and will only get better.
With temps in the 40's for early March it was time to hit the river for some early season walleye fishing. Water temps were 37-40 degrees. Water clarity was as clear as I have ever seen on the river. There were a fair amount of boats on the water and a few fish were being caught pitching jigs, bladebaits, and Dubuque rigging. Fishing was not fast and most of the fish caught were between 12-18". The bite should continue to improve in the next week or two. Good luck to all the anglers participating in the Freeze Your Butt Off tournament today.
September is great time to fish Lake Superior for lake trout. Smaller lake trout were out in 120-150 ft of water. The nicer lake trout were found in 25-40 ft of water. The key is finding the right water temperature. Lake trout were caught off the bottom and as high as 10 feet under the surface. Water temps were consistent from the bottom to the top and fish hit at different depths. A couple bonus king salmon were caught as well.
